Sarasota – a beautiful city located on the West Coast of Florida between Tampa and Ft. Myers/Naples. Sarasota is located right on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico and the Sarasota Bay, the 35 miles of spectacular white sand beaches places most residents within a 15 minute ride to surf and sand.
Money Magazine’s Best Places to Live 2000 awarded Sarasota, the Best Small City in the USA. The focus was on economically vibrant cities that are also successfully managing their growth and providing the highest quality of life. Along with the usual emphasis on solid schools, low crime and job growth, Money Magazine also looked for areas that have avoided urban sprawl and overcrowding, where cities have focused on green space, culture and having an accessible city center.
Employment Review’s annual America’s Best Places to Live and Work in 2000 awarded the number one spot to Sarasota, Florida. Sarasota earned its No. 1 ranking based on its incredible economic outlook, moderate cost of living index, diverse industries, exceptional healthcare, high educational standards and an unbeatable quality of life.
The Sarasota-Bradenton area was also ranked 3rd in the nation for companies relocating to communities about its size by BizMiner Business Vitality Review. The ranking was developed by looking at how many businesses moved in and out of the area, a similar measurement for employment and a measurement that compared migration of jobs and companies against the existing total.
Considered by many to be the “Cultural” capital of Florida with its own symphony, ballet and opera companies. In addition, the city has an 1,800 seat Van Wezel Performing Arts Center bringing a number of different kinds of performances as well as a number of smaller theatres such as the Florida Studio Theatre, Florida Studio Cabaret, Theatre Works, The Golden Apple Theater and the Players Studio Theatre. There is the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Mote Marine Science Center and Aquarium, the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens and Historic Spanish Point. Annually, there is an international film festival as well.
Interested in sports? Just an hour away there is the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the MLB’s Tampa Bay Devil Rays, NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightening and Spring Training for MLB’s New York Yankees. A little closer to home you will find the Spring Training grounds for MLB’s Cincinnati Reds in Sarasota and MLB’s Pittsburgh Pirates in Bradenton.
Sarasota has plenty of water, so water sports are in abundance here. In addition approximately 65 golf courses public and private, tennis, fishing and most outdoor sports are found as Sarasota has a wonderful tropical climate with an average temperature year round of 72 F.
Sarasota has a number of different areas of town that boasts unbelievable cuisine at its fine restaurants and wonderful boutiques and shopping areas for the discriminatory shopper. You will also find many antique shops and art galleries in and around the downtown area.
